Five suspects including Moneragala SSP Sisila Kumara and Ethimale OIC Sanjaya Dharmadasa and the SSP’s driver, PC Sasindu Madhushan who were arrested on the charge of keeping a stock of cannabis in possession, aiding and abetting for treasure hunting and engaged in illegal activities were ordered to be remanded till January 24 after being produced before Moneragala District Judge Sajini Amarawickrama yesterday.
The court ordered to release Weerappulige Emodya Kavishanka of Egoda Uyana, Moratuwa, a suspect on bail with surety of Rs.500,000 and he was ordered to produce his passport to court.
The Special Task Force took into custody a stock of cannabis weighing over 22 kilograms with a scanner which is used to find treasure from the official residence of Moneragala SSP Sisila Kumara on January 10. The CID arrested the Ethimale OIC for aiding and abetting in the offence on Thursday night.

Moneragala SSP interdicted
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa yesterday said that Moneragala SSP Sisira Kumara who was arrested and remanded in connection with alleged smuggling and possessing of a stock of cannabis has been interdicted.
