France bound couple on fake passports arrested at BIA

A Tibetan couple who came to Sri Lanka as tourists on an Indian passport onward to France on a fake Taiwan passport were arrested by the officers of the Katunayake unit of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (13).

One of them had arrived in Sri Lanka in 2021 on an Indian passport investigations conducted on him have revealed that he had engaged various employments during his stay in the country.

The female suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka recently.

Investigations have shown that a group of people are engaged in human trafficking centered in Sri Lanka. Investigations have revealed that this woman was brought to Sri Lanka to be sent to France as a couple and a large amount of money was taken for the purpose by human smugglers.

Even the fake Taiwanese passports were given to this Tibetan couple by a Chinese who is engaged in this smuggling. Investigations have also revealed that the entry visa to France kept in the Taiwan foreign passport was also falsely recorded.

The CID has initiated investigation into this human smuggling racket.
