China donates 70% requirement of school uniforms

The Chinese government yesterday provided 8,862,990 meters of cloth as a grant, fulfilling 70% of the school uniform requirement for 2023. Acting Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hu Wei officially handed over the stock to Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha at the Colombo Port yesterday.

The Education Ministry said that the country has already received a 1/3 of the fabric that has been cut, packed and labeled so that it can be given away directly to the students, and the rest of the fabric is to be received in the near future.

Education Minister Dr.Susil Premajayantha said that the school uniforms for 2023 will be provided by March 20 to 4.1 million children and monks studying in all government and government-aided schools and pirivena’s across the country.

The Acting Chinese Ambassador officially informed the Education Minister that the amount of 10,000 metric tonnes of rice, which was given in parts by the Chinese government on several occasions as a donation for the government school lunch programme in Sri Lanka, has now been fully supplied.
