Seventy five urban forests countrywide to mark Independence

Seventy five urban forests countrywide will be established to mark the 75th Independence ceremony this February under the ‘Urban Forest’ concept.

It has been observed that the density of urban forests is decreasing rapidly due to urbanization. As a side effect of this alarming situation, air pollution conditions were also observed in urban areas time to time during the recent past.

As a remedy to this situation, the government is focusing on implementing an urban forestry project, commencing from the Independence Day. Accordingly, it is planned to carry out these forest plantations in the vicinity of urban areas.This will act to overcome air pollution in urban areas and preserve the ecological balance as well.
