Navy down Army 41-30 in high-scoring thriller

Navy SC pulled off a magnificent 41-30 victory over Army SC in a high-scoring SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round encounter played at Welisara yesterday.

The match produced a total of 10 tries with Navy SC collecting their points from four goals, two tries and one penalty after leading 29-13 at half time while Army SC responded with two goals, two tries and two penalties.

The visitors, of course, opened the scoring with a try from Ashan Bandara but Navy SC hit back strongly before half time with Harsha Maduranga going over for three tries and Thanuja Malimbada scoring one try.

After the turnaround, Navy SC added two more tries to their tally through Lahiru Herath and Malimbada with Thilina Weerasinghe and Samuel Maduwantha adding the extra points.

Army SC scored three tries in the second half through Vinod Kumar, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Ashan Bandara with Isuru Medagedara adding the extra points and putting over two penalties.

Army Women win 10s Rugby curtain-raiser

Army SC edged out Navy SC 26-22 in their inaugural SLR Women’s 10-A-Side Rugby Tournament curtain-raiser match played at Welisara yesterday. The winners collected their points from three goals and one try while Navy SC responded with one goal and three tries.
