The global aviation industry will face a huge demand for HR in the future, said Chairman Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited, (AASL) Major General (Rtd.) G. A. Chandrasiri who was the Chief Guest at the Graduation Ceremony of the International Airline & Aviation College at BMICH recently.
“The International Civil Aviation Organization, (ICAO) predicted a worldwide shortage of personnel to man the aviation industry some time back. The COVID-19 pandemic made it worse and it is now predicted that by the year 2032, the world will be short of 80,000 pilots.”
That is undoubtedly an alarming figure that would frighten anyone with an interest in the industry. In addition, in the areas of air traffic control, aircraft maintenance, flight dispatch and navigation aids maintenance and almost every other trade connected with aviation will see a huge demand for HR.”
“Even the total identified aviation training capacity of the entire world put together, is insufficient to turn out adequate numbers of trained personnel to bridge this projected gap.”
He said that AASL also operates its own aviation training Academy and requested them to explore the possibility of collaboration between the two training institutions as it also immensely benefit the local aviation industry. “However the Government institution alone cannot meet this demand and a contribution of the private sector in aviation training becomes important and significant.”
“It is also noteworthy that International Airline & Aviation College a privately owned institution and in a short period eight years, the institution has matured into an aviation training institution catering to nearly 150 students.”
“During this time, you have turned out more than 1000 graduates who have been successful in securing employment in key organizations related to aviation industry, including international airlines. I also note that your training portfolio includes courses of high demand in the industry such as airline ticketing, cabin crew training, pilot training, and cargo operations training and this is praise worthy.”
