Fourteen more stranded in Oman arrive

Another 14 women who had gone to work in Oman and were at the Sri Lanka Embassy safe house after facing various difficulties arrived  in the country yesterday. They were brought to the country with the intervention of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.

Out of this group, seven women have gone abroad after getting registered with the SLBFE and the other seven had gone abroad to work illegally under tourist visas. Although the SLBFE does not have any legal provisions to spend money to bring back people who go abroad illegally without duly registering, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister, Manusha Nanayakkara, had taken steps to obtain special cabinet approval for the purpose.
