Kandy Sports Club won their fifth game in a row in the Nippon Paint inter club first round league tournament. Kandy SC rugby has been improving over the last three decades, and there are a number of reasons for this, as well as for their excellent performance. They are hoping to play their full side in the coming games, in the last few games they played without some of their key players due to injury even the captain of the side was out due to injury.
All in all the future for rugby in the Club is bright, with most of the players who are injured are sure to come back for the next game to put out a good performance. Their next game is on Saturday against CH and FC who beat Havelock Sc in the last outing. Kandy Sc has beaten Army SC, Navy SC, Air Force SC Police SC and CR and FC. From today Monday they will be hard at practices put things in order and the head coach Fazil Marija is sure to give his best along with the other coaches.
Having topped the league first round with five wins it’s somewhat remarkable that Kandy SC continues to fly high in the game, particularly when to know anything about Kandy SC’s rugby is to know that their success is one of the most remarkable stories in the game.
Trinity excel in football
Trinity College football side led by Stephen Ashe continued its march, they are doing well in the game, they emerged group champions in the Sri Lanka School’sFootball Federation Tournament held from 8th to 14th of December at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium, beat S. Thomas’ College by two goals to one in their schools under 20 match played at Cooray Park Wellawatte. For the winners Yevan Hulangamuwa and Vidumeth Dhammage scored the goals and for the losers Anudha Ellewela scored the goal.
Antonian Girls in semis
St. Anthony’s Girls College Kandy made Kandy proud by entering the semifinal of the inter schools girls under 19 division II cricket tournament. To enter semifinals they beat Dudley Senanayake Central College by117 runs. St. Anthony’s Girls batting first made 206 in 29.1 over’s and in reply . Senanayake Central made 89 in 18.3 over’s
Trinity sports meet
The Annual Senior Inter House Sports meet of Trinity College will be held on January 21 (Saturday) at the Asgiriya Stadium, this event marks the commencement of Inter House events.
The Chief Guest will be Duminda de Silva who excelled in basketball and rugby and represented the country in 1999. Duminda’s first club after school was Kandy SC were he polished his rugby and later played for CR and FC, CH and FC and Havelock SC.
