Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena yesterday said that successful and optimistic results are being received regarding the restructuring of Sri Lanka’s debt, an agreement has been reached regarding the provision of loans to Sri Lanka by the International Monetary Fund, and the agreement of the International Monetary Fund is likely to be signed in the first quarter of this year.
He said this in response to a media inquiry about the situation regarding the loan from the International Monetary Fund at the media conference held at the Government Information Department premises to inform the decisions taken at this week’s Cabinet meeting.
“Accordingly, countries such as Japan, India and China have an optimistic attitude regarding the restructuring of the country’s debt, and they may reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund in this regard,” the minister said.
