Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane yesterday said that it was discussed at this week’s Cabinet Meeting to slash 6 percent of the expenses allocated for the year 2023.
He stated this at the Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department.
The Minister of Health has requested about Rs.10 billion for the medicines given to the patients, but in view of the current situation, it is not possible to procure the money for it, but since he has arranged to provide free medical services for the needy patients. The President proposed to slash five percent from the expenses allocated for the Ministry from the Budget 2023.
The Cabinet of Ministers has further decided to cut another 1 percent from all ministries because they want to somehow solve the problem of getting the medicines needed by the people to give priority to health, 6 percent of the allocated expenditure for 2023 to all ministries.
