Election Expenditure Bill can be passed with simple majority - SC

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced yesterday (17) that the Supreme Court has determined that Regulations of Election Expenditure Bill is consistent with the Constitution. 

The SC has also determined that the Bill can be passed with a simple majority in Parliament. Accordingly the House will be able to carry out the Second Reading debate of the Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill soon. The Committee on Parliamentary Business which is to meet today (18) will discuss the matter and decide on a date to hold the debate.
