Switzerland has agreed to provide its assistance towards a social safety net for migrant workers and to digitize the Labour Department and foreign employment related services.
Switzerland Ambassador Dominik Furgler yesterday called on Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, and the above agreement was arrived at during the discussion.
The Minister explained the projects in the pipeline for this year under his Ministry. The Ambassador said Switzerland could support the proposed digitization programme and the social safety net for migrant workers based on Switzerland’s experiences.He underlined that diplomatic work should also be digitized.
The Ambassador was also apprised of the ‘Manusavi’ pension scheme for migrant workers. The Minister also explained him on the Truth Commission, which has been proposed to enhance reconciliation.
