Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera had explained to Cabinet that so far no agreement has been reached with the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) regarding the electricity tariff.
Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena told the media that the CEB owes the CPC Rs.106 billion rupees as of last Tuesday, Rs.50 billion to suppliers who supplied renewable energy and Rs.5 billion to those who installed solar panels on roofs.
He pointed out that it was mentioned earlier that a cost-reflective formula should be introduced to continuously supply power to the people, and for that, PUCSL’s lack of support has become a problem.
The minister said that it would cost Rs.5 billion to not disrupt the electricity on the days of the A-level examination and Rs. 357 million would be required daily for the purpose.
