Our girls will go out with confidence as they take on Australia in their third league game today (18) after rectifying their mistakes in the last Bangladesh game, said Shashikala Siriwardena the National under 19 women’s team coach yesterday from South Africa before their training session. The match will start at 1.30 pm (SL time).

We defeated USA in the first game in a low-scoring game and put up a good fight against Bangladesh on Monday but finally lost by a narrow margin of nine runs.

We cam very close to winning. I really appreciated our Skipper Vishmi Gunaratne who always handles the game very well.

She was named player of the match with an unbeaten 34 and her fighting knock of unbeaten 60 against USA was outstanding. Dewmi Vihanga who scored 55 put on a 94 run third wicket stand. Actually our openers Nethmi Senaratne and Sumudu Nisansala were unable to give a good start in the Bangladesh game.

If they had given a good start then they would have reached the target easily. However we wanted to correct those mistakes when playing today against Australia said the former National skipper Shashikala Siriwardena.

We gave extra 15-20 runs extra while during the fielding we dropped a few catches and these are the main areas to rectify said Shashikala.

We played on the same ground in Binoni last two matches while today’s third game will be played at another ground at Binoni.

That wicket little bit hard and good for the batswomen and pace bowlers. We are looking to make a few changers but it will be decided in the last training session which was scheduled to held yesterday evening.

Bangladesh defeated Australia by 7 wickets while Australia beat USA but we don’t think about those results and want to go for the win against Australia added Shashikala.

My team is keen to train hard and their intention is clear to enter the top four teams at the world cup. We have very little knowledge about our opponent teams but we want to take match by match.

Actually our under 19 team had very short period (nearly 6: months) for this world cup preparation while Bangladesh had more than two years experience but my players dedication is very high and their commitment is always very good.

Sri Lanka cricket gave all Infrastructure facilities while my supporting staff and manager Indrani Ariyaratne, SLC Administration and women’s cricket development manager Manuja Kariyapperuma always backed us and without forgetting women’s cricket convener Apsari Thillekaratne who made a good effort to find players in a talent search, said Shashikala in conclusion.
