Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) already commenced the Junior National pool training under newly appointed National junior coach Amalka Gunatilleka.

The six-member selection committee was already named but that is not officially released by the Netball Federation but the Selection Committee was present to select the Junior pool which was formed last week.

According to the President of the Netball Federation Victoria Lukshmi, they are focused on the next Asian Junior Championship which will be held in South Korea next June.

“Now we have pruned down to 35 players for the National pool and next February 25 we are planning to cut down it to a 20-25 member pool and then reduce to a final 12-member team and four reserve players”.

The selected Junior National pool members underwent medical tests conducted by Dr. Daminda Attanayke and Dr. Shiromi Pilapitiya both from the Sports Medical Unit.” We already formed a Development pool to make second string team and maintain both senior and junior pools are a big challenge,” added Victoria.

The players’ fitness is the key and after the medical tests, we are planning to improve the fitness level of the selected pools. We have training at Torrington grounds as well as Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and the Sports Ministry gives good support to us. Especially NFSL is keen to look at players’ strength and conditioning training.

“We already started to develop this area while looking at sponsors also very important. we have estimated our budget and wanted to find the money for the Junior Asian Netball tour,” added the Netball Chief.
