A team of investigative officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested a Police Constable attached to the Jaffna Special Crimes Investigation Division on Tuesday for allegedly obtaining a bribe of Rs.1 million to act in favour of a suspect, who had forged the signature of a deceased person to make a fake deed.
The Investigation Division of the CIABOC said that the arrest was made when the Police Constable was taking the bribe near the Saththane Weekly Fair in Jaffna, following a complaint received to the Commission. A team of officials had gone to Jaffna from Colombo to make the arrest.
The Jaffna Special Crimes Investigation Division had previously arrested a group of suspects, including a notary in Jaffna and a principal, over a fraudulent land deed case. The Police Constable had allegedly solicited the bribe to act in favour of the suspects at the Court.
