ACJU Centenary Celebrations today

President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the Chief Guest at the centenary celebrations of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) to be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference (BMICH) hall today (19).

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunewardena too will grace the occasion. Religious leaders of all faiths and foreign and local delegates will attend the event.

The ACJU which has been in existence since 1924 will celebrate 100 years of service to the Muslim community and the Nation while giving precedence to efforts at harmony and unity and further expanding its services to the Muslim community and socio-economic uplift of the country ACJU General Secretary Ash-Shaikh M. Arkam Nooramith said. The Key Note speech will be delivered by ACJU President Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe and General Secretary Ash-Shaikh M. Arkam Nooramith will explain the organisation's future plans and contribution to the community and about the centenary of service of ACJU towards humanity.

Both President Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Gunewardene will address the gathering.A special stamp will be issued to mark the occasion and the ACJU will also issue its centenary souvenir.

The ACJU was incorporated by Parliament Act No. 51 of 2000. The objectives of the ACJU are farsighted, long-run, and designed to serve the Muslim Community and the nation. At present ACJU has 163 Branches in 24 districts and over 8000 Scholars as subscribed Members.

The ACJU has organized itself into Sub-Committees (Divisions) to serve its stakeholders, in which most of the veteran members are involved as volunteers, along with professional staff members in the forefront serving the community and the country together, focusing on the aspects of Ulama (Religious Scholars) Affairs, Muslim Community Affairs, Citizens Affairs and engagement with authorities.

The ACJU’s vision is to build an exemplary and complying Muslim community enriched with the Islamic values and teachings and contributing towards the uplift of Deenul Islam and the betterment of the community and the nation.

Its mission is to provide spiritual, ethical, and moral guidance to all levels of the Muslim community based on Islamic teachings, and contributing towards the development of educational, economic, social, and cultural aspects of the community and nation, whilst building unity among community and coexistence with all ethnicities.

The ACJU strives to provide spiritual guidance to all levels of the Muslim community based on Islamic Teachings, work towards building individuals and families enriched with ethical and moral values, ensure the welfare of the Ulama and enhancement of the Islamic Religious Education, contribute towards the development of educational, economic, social, and cultural aspects of the community and nation, upholding unity among community, contribute to develop peaceful coexistence with all ethnicities and to instigate all necessary efforts and activities to attain the objectives and goals of ACJU.

The ACJU works within an Islamic background while maintaining the Sri Lankan Identity and it promotes moderation, diversity and pluralism.

The ACJU Secretariat which functions under the direct purview of the President and the General Secretary overlooks secretarial matters of the organisation such as official communications, legal matters, media-related affairs, strategic planning, event/programme management, and stakeholder engagement.

The ACJU has a total of 163 Branches around the country which includes 139 Divisional Branches and 24 District Branches. These Branches are reorganised every three years and a new panel of office-bearers is selected for optimum performance.

It has Sub Committees (Divisions) such as Committee for Islamic Religious Scholars’ Affairs, Social Services Committee, Fatwa Committee, Hilaal Committee, Education, Research and Publication Committee, Propagation and Guidance Committee (Da’wah and Tarbiyah), Women’s Affairs Committee and Council for Cooperation and Coordination.

The ACJU has organised a number of programmes in conjunction with its centenary to benefit the Muslim community and the country in general.
