SAARC journalists in a seven point declaration urged all Governments in the region to ensure freedom of press and expression, professional satisfaction and security of journalists, merge media industry and journalism to create a strong fourth pillar of state, to work with value and ethics, to develop nation building thought with public opinion and independence for social change and to maintain peace and tranquillity in the region for development, progress and stability.

The inaugural conference of the  South Asian Association of Reporters Club and Journalist Forum (SJF) was held at the Gautam Buddha University in New Delhi on January 10-11 at which the seven point 'Delhi Declaration of SAARC Journalists Conference 2023' was drawn up. SJF honoured the Sri Lanka Chapter by electing its Vice President Rahul Samantha Hettiarachchi to the SJF Executive Committee. Journalists Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa and Sanath Priyantha attended the conference.
