The Panadura South Police said investigations are underway in search of a group of people who fled the scene after a flat at the Moderawila Housing Complex in Panadura was set on fire after an argument between two groups on Tuesday.
The police said that no lives were lost in the fire, and the damage to property is yet to be estimated.
The police said that there had been a fight between two groups due to a money dispute at Janapriya Mawatha, Panadura on Tuesday and the victims were being treated at the Panadura Base Hospital.
Based on that attack, a senior police officer said that it has been confirmed during investigations carried out so far, that a group of unidentified people had come to the Moderawila Housing
Complex at around 10.30pm that same night and set fire to the flat on the third floor.
The police said that another person was attacked with a sharp weapon in the Moderawila Housing Complex by the group who had come there.
A fire engine of the Moratuwa Municipality brought the fire under control with the help of local residents, but it is said that the fire has caused severe damage.
A hospital spokesperson said that the injured are being treated at Panadura Base Hospital.
A team of police officers including Officer-In-Charge of the Crimes Division, Sub-Inspector of Police, Gayan Pushpakumara, is conducting investigations based on instructions of Panadura Senior Superintendent of Police Samantha Wedage, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishantha Senaratne and Headquarters Inspector of Police Upul Priyankara Nawulla.
