The course was conducted by a group of experts in Forensic Diving at the Gendarmerie Law Enforcement Forces of France, from January 9 to 13 and it was attended by three officers and three sailors from the Sri Lanka Navy Diving Unit.
It covered a range of areas including Underwater Search, Underwater Photography of the Crime Scene and Evidence, Labelling of a Crime Scene, Fingerprint Detection and DNA Collection, Packaging of Evidence Underwater, Corpse Recovery and Inspection and Evidence Collection of Sunken Aircraft.
Upon successful completion of the course, the Gendarmerie Law Enforcement Forces on January 13 gifted a state-of-the-art ‘Olympus TG – 06’ underwater camera and peripherals to the Sri Lanka Navy. Calling on the Navy Commander at the Navy Headquarters yesterday, the course participants presented the equipment to the Navy.
