Janaka Kaluhendiwela no more

Former Maliyadeva College Cricket captain, an athlete and first-class cricketer Janaka Kaluhendiwela is no more. He suffered a heart attack on Monday in Colombo and died at the age of 60.   

A right handed batsman, Kaluhendiwela captained the Maliyadeva College first XI team in the 1981/82 season and scored over 600 runs during the season. He played for Maliyadeva from 1978-1982 and also represented his alma mater in the 'Battle of the Rocks' encounter in 1981. After leaving school, he joined Bloomfield C & A.C. and played for Honda Trophy under 25 Cricket tournament with much success under Brendon Kuruppu and also in the Sara Trophy. He was a member of the Maliyadeva College 4 x 400 metre relay team which won the National championship in 1981.   

The funeral will take place today (Thursday 19th) at General Cemetery, Polgahawela at 5.30 p.m.
