Murder undergrad to see psychiatrist in prison hospital

The university student who was remanded over the recent murder of a fellow female student was admitted to the Welikada Prison hospital to be examined by a psychiatrist and obtain a report on his mental health yesterday.

Accordingly, a psychiatrist from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) will visit the prison hospital within the next few days to examine him. The report issued by the relevant medical officer will be submitted to court.

Police on Wednesday presented to court the clinic card of this student, said to have obtained medication for a mental illness. Court ordered him to be examined by a psychiatrist of the NIMH accordingly. The suspect was brought to the remand prison on Wednesday and the prison sources said that he had lost his consciousness when entering the prison premises.

However, his mental condition was normal and he had his food as a normal person by yesterday, the sources further said.
