Dedicated life to uplift Sri Lankan cinema - President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe in a condolence message over the demise of veteran film maker Sumithra Peries yesterday said that Sumithra Peries believed that Sri Lanka needs a cinema industry that attracted an international audience.

The President said that her death marks the end of an era of the local cinema industry. “She dedicated her life for the uplift of Sri Lankan cinema,”the message said. The President said that Sumithra attempted to portray the indomitable courage, perseverance and fortitude of women were portrayed through her creations.
