Fourteen more deported from Oman return

Fourteen Sri Lankan domestic workers who had gone to Oman for employment had been deported from that country and arrived at the Katunayake Airport yesterday morning (20). Among them were, six housemaids who had been facing various problems in that country and were then kept in the ‘Suraksha’ detention home affiliated to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.

In addition to this, eight other domestic workers who had been accused of minor offences in the houses where they had worked and found guilty by a labour court in Oman had also been deported. A pregnant Sri Lankan domestic worker was also present among the group of domestic workers who came. This group of domestic workers arrived at the Katunayake Airport yesterday at 4.50 am from Muscat, Oman, on Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL-206.

Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau officials had taken over the custody of these domestic workers who arrived at the airport and later taken steps to send them to their respective homes.
