SJB MP Mujibur Rahuman resigns seat

To contest for Colombo Mayorship

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Mujibar Rahuman stepped down as MP yesterday (20) to compete in the coming Local Government election for the post of Colombo Mayor.

Rahuman extended his gratitude to people for electing him to parliament since 2015. He observed that he fought for the rights of all the people without any ethnic differences.

Rahuman noted that he is committed to protect the democratic rights of the people of the country.

“Local Government elections have been called. Tomorrow is the last day for accepting nominations.Therefore, as decided by the Executive Committee of our party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, I am hereby informing you that I will resign from the Parliament today to run for the position of Mayor of Colombo. I would like to thank 87,000 people who voted me in Colombo district and electing me to this House twice. I strongly believe that we should do everything in our power to safeguard people’s right to vote and right for an election. I would like to request the government not to hinder this election and allow the Election Commission to hold the LG polls successfully.”
