Three drug smugglers were arrested with 01 kg and 254 grams of heroin worth over Rs.20 million during an operation conducted by the Police Special Task Force near a popular restaurant in Rajagiriya. During this raid, the Police Special Task Force officers also found Rs.147,000 earned from drug trafficking in the possession of the suspects.
“Those arrested were engaged in a passenger transport service and the drugs had been transported to various locations by this method to evade detection,” Police said.
During the raid conducted on January 20, two persons from the Puttalam and Mattakkuliya areas aged 39 and 48 years, who were in the van transporting the narcotics together with a 41-year-old man from Maharagama who also helped in the smuggling opertion were arrested in Pannipitiya.
The suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
