Masters Basketball tourney from February 3

Masters Basketball Sri Lanka (MBSL) will conduct their age category veterans men’s and women’s tournament at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on February 3,4,5 and 10, 11, 12. Fifty men’s teams and 15 women’s teams have already confirmed to compete in this tournament under different age categories. For men it is 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+ 50+, 55+ while women are competing on 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+ categories.

Masters Basketball was established in 1999 as Veterans Basketball Association of Sri Lanka and in 2008 the name changed to Masters Basketball Sri Lanka. MBSL is affiliated to World Masters Basketball Association in USA. Malsiri Perera was the founder president of the association and Dr. Gayath Jayasinghe is the present president since 2018.

MBSL conducted a tournament for veterans in 2021 amidst Covid-19 pandemic and attracted over 350 players. The tournament was sponsored by Gaja Sports. MBSL highly motivated to conduct this tournament once again for the veterans with the sponsorship of Gaja Sports. This time organisers are expecting over 650 athletes and 50 officials to take part in the tourney. The tournament will be telecast live by the sports channel “Gaja TV” on PEOTV channel 116.
