CR and FC seal exciting 33-27 win over Navy

CR and FC pulled off an exciting 33-27 victory over Navy SC in their 2022/23 SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round encounter played at Longden Place yesterday.

The winners who were trailing 8-15 at half time produced an improved performance after the turnaround and collected their points from two goals, two tries and three penalties while the Sailors responded with two goals, two tries and one penalty.

The significant feature of this game was that both teams were able to collect valuable bonus points with four tries each as CR and FC kept their league title hopes alive for another week.

Ashan Darling and Thenuka Nanayakkara did the early scoring for CR and FC before Gemunu Chethiya and Marsheed Doray put them in front with a try each in the second half.

Chathura Seneviratne also contributed well for CR and FC success with three good penalties and converted one try while Nanayakkara added the extra points to the second try.

Navy SC, of course, were in the game until the final whistle following another tremendous performance with Nirosh Perera, Harsha Maduranga, Dinesh de Silva and Lahiru Herath scoring a try each.

Thilina Weerasinghe converted two tries and also put over a penalty for the visitors.

Air Force SC vs Army SC

Air Force SC cruised to an impressive 27-19 victory over Army SC in another SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round match played at Panagoda yesterday.

After trailing 0-5 at half time, the Airmen got their act together and went on to collect their points from two goals, two tries and one penalty while the home side responded with two goals and one try.

Shamika Milinda had an excellent game with two tries for Air Force SC while Dharshana Dabare and Parakrama Rathnayake scored a try each with Nuwan Perera adding the extra points and putting over a penalty.

Army SC too scored three tries through Lasantha Kumara, Mohamed Rifan and Kaveen Perera with Isuru Medagedera adding the extra points.
