Sharmal, Saajida clinch SSC Tennis Titles

Sharmal Dissanayake and Saajida Razick won the Men’s and Women’s Singles title respectively at the First Capital SSC Open Tennis Tournament, which concluded at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.

The former Davis Cup player Dissanayake was stretched to a gruelling four-setter before he rallied around well to pull off a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Chathurya Nilaweera in an exciting final encounter.

In contrast, Saajida had little difficulties as she cruised to a smashing straight set 6-3, 6-4 victory over Neyara Weerawansa in the Women’s Singles final.

Sharmal was presented with the Arjun Fernando Trophy while Saajida received the Sriya Munasinghe Challenge Trophy.
