The Government will spend Rs.122 million to distribute the stock of diesel provided by the Government of China to the paddy farmers in Sri Lanka.
The Department of Agrarian Services is now distributing the 6.8 million litres of diesel that the Chinese Government provided free to the paddy farmers for Maha season paddy harvesting.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the Government will spend Rs. 122 million to distribute the diesel stock by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) through bowers throughout the island.
Arrangements have been made to provide a quantity of fuel free to every farmer cultivating paddy from half an acre to two and a half acres, depending on the number of cultivated acres. A farmer who cultivates two and a half acres or one hectare gets 15 litres of fuel.
The Minister has instructed Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe to take steps to provide the necessary money to the CPC through the Ministry. Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe said that arrangements have been made to pay the money to the Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation from the funds they are to receive this year.
