An Independent Group that placed cash deposits to contest for the Jaffna Municipal Council at the upcoming Local Government (LG) polls had failed to submit nominations because they forgot the nomination deadline.
The leader of the group was responding to queries from journalists as to why his group did not submit nominations even after placing the deposits.
None of the nominations submitted by Independent Groups for the LG polls in the Jaffna district were rejected. Altogether, 17 Independent Groups had submitted nomination papers to a number of Local Government institutions including the Jaffna Municipal Council.
However, nominations submitted by seven recognized political parties had been rejected in the Jaffna District.
