Samgamitta BMV Galle girls overall champion team with School Association Secretary Malika Waduge  

St Sebastian College Moratuwa and Samgamitta BMV Galle emerged boys and girls overall champions at the Junior Badminton championship concluded at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Sunday .

St Sebastian College team coached by Iresh de Silva made an outstanding performance in this tournament while they collected highest points (55 ) to take overall championship.In fact .Pulina Wellalage the 16 year old shuttler from St Sebastian was highly appreciated by Badminton experts as he bagged a triple crown in boys under 17 .He also reached the quarter final stage in the men’s open at the senior Nationals and lost to champion Buwaneka Gunatilleka. Thilina Rajakaruna who was runner up at under 17 singles( lost to Pulina) another promising shuttler also from St Sebastian while Hasandu Fernando of same School clinched the boys under 13 title .Lehan.Andrahendi under 19 semi finalist and Duvindu Edirisinghe under 13 semi finalist also from St Sebastian brought honour for their school.The coach Iresh de Silva said their school Principal staff and old boys give good support to school Badminton and all his players are dedicated .

Meanwhile Samgamitta BMV Galle came in front at the girls section to take overall championship .Pawani Illeperumaarachchi the daughter of former National player Sanka Illeperumaarachchi entered under 15 semi finals while most of the junior Sangamittians excelled at the doubles event .Mithara Dewmi and Thwmi Wijesuriya reached the under 19 semi finals while Thisuni Liyanarachchi and Lavandi Umagiliyage won girls under 19 doubles event .

Pawani Illeperumaarachchi and Sanuti Gurusinghe won the girls under 15 doubles event to bring honour Samgamitta BMV.The coach of Samgamitta BMV Subash Janaka who was a former National player said his guidance and commitment paved the way to get success.I started the coaching from beginners and today we can see the success of junior Sangamittians said Subash Janaka.

The Secretary of the Schools Badminton Association Malika Waduge said this time there was good progress at the Junior Nationals while the President of Sri Lanka Badminton Rohan de Silva gave assistance to school Badminton to come forward.Our juniors excelled at the recently concluded international events and we have to appreciate Sri Lanka Badminton and Vice President Roshan Gunawardena who is handling outstation pools and Palitha Hettiarachchi the vice president who is in charge of National pool and development gave good support to juniors .
