OIC pledges support to Sri Lanka

Foreign Affairs Minister M U M Ali Sabry, PC who met the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ambassador Hissein Brahim Taha in Jeddah on Tuesday said that the 57-member organisation has pledged its support to Sri Lanka during this crisis period.

Minister Sabry is on a five-day official tour to Saudi Arabia on an invitation from his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal Bin Farhan.

The Sri Lankan delegation includes the Minister of Rural Economy Kader Masthan and U.L.M.Jauhar, Additional Secretary/Consular Affairs and Political Affairs (Middle East and Africa) at the foreign ministry in Colombo. Sri Lanka’s ambassador in Riyadh, Pakeer Mohideen Amza, and the consul-general in Jeddah, Falah Moulana have joined the ministerial team during the meetings..

Sabry said “Sri Lanka is seeking to boost relations with Saudi Arabia through connectivity, investment, and employment opportunities.”

Minister Sabry is scheduled to meet with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during the official trip, as well as senior officials from the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah on Wednesday Jan 25 and in Riyadh he is slated to meet with the Secretary General of the GCC and the Chairman of the Saudi Fund For Development.
