Sayumi promising women’s cricketer

Seventeen Year old Sayuni Premaratne is a grade 12 student of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy in the commerce stream. She is a fine left hand batswoman and the wicket keeper of its team. she scored three half centuries at the Division two girls cricket tournament concluded last week and helped her school to come within first eight teams in the island. She scored 56 against Nugawela Central, , 59 against Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha and scored 57 against Fathima Central College. She also made 26 not out against Peradeniya Central College.

As a wicket keeper she claimed 12 catches and four stumpings behind the stumps in the same tournament.She started her cricket career in 2018 under the coaching of the writer who is coaching cricket since 1965. At the start of her cricket career she showed her class as an outstanding Batswoman when she scored an unbeaten knock of 57 runs at the Inaugural Indra Withamarachchi Trophy Cricket match representing Mahamaya Blues team against Mahamaya Golds team and helped her team to register six wicket win over Mahamaya Golds team. In the following year (2019) she won the Best fielders award. Her ambition is to continue cricket to be selected to the National Womens Cricket team. She is also studying to become a Chartered Accountant.
