Two promising players Zaidh Zihar and Saajida Razick clinched the Boys’ and Girls’ Under-18 Singles title respectively at the First Capital SSC Open Tennis Championships, which continued at the SSC Courts in Maitland Place yesterday.
Zihar powered his way to a convincing 6-0, 6-4 straight-set victory over Vichinthya Nilaweera in the Boys’ Under-18 final while Saajida cruised to a 6-3, 2-0 win over Vishmi Serasinghe, who was forced to retire during the second set.
This was also the second major title for Saajida in this tournament, having earlier won the Women’s Singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Neyara Weerawansa in the final.
Meanwhile, Githmi Fernando also completed a fine double when she defeated Gehansa Methnadi 6-4, 6-0 in the Girls’ Under-14 Singles final having earlier won the Girls’ Under-16 Singles title.
