Pavithra Wanniarachchi started work as Minister at the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry Wednesday morning. After assuming office, an initial introductory discussion about the ministry was held in the auditorium with the participation of the officials of the ministry.
The Minister said that the rights of animals should be protected, while providing solutions to the problems faced by the people. She also said that the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry can earn a lot of income for Sri Lanka.
She also said that the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry is very important. A special issue that the Minister brought up during her discussion with Ministry officials was human–elephant conflict.
“I strongly emphasized to the officers that we must protect the rights of animals and provide solutions to people’s problems as well. This ministry can provide a lot of foreign exchange to Sri Lanka. We can turn it into a revenue-generating ministry. We can give a big help to the tourism industry through this ministry,” the Minister said.
Former Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Secretary to the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry R.M.C.M. Herath and other officials of the Ministry were present.
