CR look to consolidate position in Rugby League

CR and FC will look to consolidate their position when they take on Army SC in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament last first-round game at Longden Place on Sunday.

CR and FC, of course, have already secured their place in the main Cup Championship Super Round segment having already recorded five impressive victories from their six outings.

In contrast, Army SC are currently at the bottom of the league tournament points table with just a solitary win and one drawn game to their credit from their six matches played so far.

Even then, Army SC will look to draw inspiration from the previous league tournament fixture where they produced a fine performance to hold the CR and FC to a 16-16 draw at Havelock Park. But this time CR and FC have really made amends for last year’s disappointing performances and have emerged as one of the top contenders to win the league title.

They brought down the traditional rivals Havelock SC 23-21 in their very first game of the tournament and also provided a real scare to the defending champions Kandy SC before going down 11-13 on their home grounds. Army SC defeated Police SC 25-23 for their solitary win of the tournament but their biggest moment was the 31-all draw against CH and FC.
