Supporter assaults person who refused to vote for NPP

An incident of assault on a person by a supporter of the National People’s Power (NPP) candidate contesting the upcoming Local Government election was reported from Megalewa in the Galgamuwa area yesterday.

The attack has been carried out by two persons after the victim had stated that he would not vote for the NPP candidate. His wife and child said that the person in question had fallen to the ground after the attack. The wife of the person who was assaulted said that she can imagine how they would behave, if they win the upcoming election.

“If violent acts like this are unleashed on innocent people prior to the election, nobody knows what will happen to the people if this party wins the election,” she said.

The victim’s young son said that two persons had come to their house and threatened his father to vote for the NPP which consists of JVP candidates. “As my father refused to give in to their threats, they started attacking him. My father then fell down,” the son said.
