A 17-year-old school student has gone missing after jumping into the Maha Oya from the Thoppuwa area in Kochchikade in a suicide attempt, since Sunday evening.
According to Police, the student had been found guilty for damaging a mobile phone worth Rs.300,000 owned by another student and with the involvement of the Police, he had agreed to pay the owner the damage in installments.
On Sunday morning, the student had left home stating that he was going to pay the owner of the mobile phone an amount of money. However, when he did not return home, the father of the student had lodged a complaint with the Kochchikade Police.
The missing student is a resident of Madampella, Akaragama. Kochchikade Police with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy divers were conducting a search operation even by yesterday afternoon.
