Haroon’s 88 guides Afghanistan U-19s to second victory

Two bowlers Duvindu Ranatunga (46 in 54 balls) and Trevin Mathew (37 in 54 balls) hit fighting knocks but it was in vain as the Under 19 Afghanistan team beat Sri Lanka under 19 by 62 runs in their Tri-Nation Cricket fixture played at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The game was played under lights while Afghanistan juniors made a challenging total of 298 in 49. 2 overs with Sri Lanka under 19s chasing a target of 299 runs, managed to get 236 in 33 overs. Mohammad Haroon top scored 88 in 59 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes while Khid Thaniwal 45 in 52 balls and Kamran Hotak 43 in 33 balls made useful knocks to get close to their total to the 300-run mark.

The tailenders Duvindu Ranatunga and off-spinner Trevin Mathew made a good effort but that was not enough to reach the target and the Sri Lanka under-19 team was all out with 17 overs to spare.

The paceman Yama Arab was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 35 while Kalil Ahmed 3 for 55 and Kamran Hotak 2 for 29 gave good support to restrict the Sri Lanka under 19 team.
