Exam to recruit graduates as teachers postponed

Examinations Commissioner Amith Jayasundara said that the Competitive Examination to recruit graduates for the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service as graduate teachers to serve in National and Provincial schools will not be conducted today.

The competitive examination has been postponed by the Education Ministry as per an order of the Supreme Court.

This competitive examination, which scheduled to be held countrywide today (25) at 341 examination centres to fill vacancies at National and Provincial schools from graduates, who have been serving at present at state service as Development Officers (DO). The new examination date will be notified to the candidates by the Examination Department in accordance with the directive of the Supreme Court, Jayasundara said.

The examination department has already made necessary arrangements to send the admission cards to the candidates who are qualified to face the recruitment examination.

Teacher vacancies in national and provincial schools have been calculated and recruitment will be done accordingly by the Education Ministry and Provincial Education Ministries. After this recruitment, provincial councils will recruit graduates on the result of a provincial basis recruitment examination held annually to fill the teacher vacancies that arise.
