Anchored ship’s Chief Engineer falls to death in Galle

The Chief Engineer of the vessel ‘Sea Parrot’ belonging to the State of Abu Dhabi which had been anchored at the Galle Harbour, fallen from the ship into the sea and died, the Galle Port Police said.

The deceased is 62-year-old Alekseje Vitalij,a Lithuanian national.

This ship had been anchored at the Galle Harbour since May 29 due to inclement weather.

The Chief Engineer of the ship had fallen into the sea when he had been engaged in some task yesterday morning on the upper deck. Although the ship’s staff had rescued the engineer who had fallen into the sea and admitted him to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, he had died while there.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Galle Port Police.
