We accept Broadcasting Authority Act - Dr. Harsha

SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva says that he accepts that there should be some criteria in the Broadcasting Authority Act.

Addressing a press conference held yesterday (31) on the economy at the Opposition Leader’s office MP Dr. Harsha De Silva, further expressed the following views:

“President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government tried to bring the Anti-Terrorism Act and according to that Act, terrorism is interpreted, including expressing opinion via media. In that context, it is possible to punish people for the crime of supporting terrorism. This definition can be done in various ways and it included articles like ‘any DIG can issue orders of detention’. The Bill is now held because it is really too broad. Therefore, it is not possible to bring that Bill until there is an agreement on what exactly terrorism is. We know that many parties, except the government, are standing against it. Now we hear that the Cabinet has issued something called the Broadcasting Authority Act. We accept this Broadcasting Authority Act under certain criteria.”
