Rishad fails to comply: CA takes up Contempt case on June 28

The Court of Appeal yesterday fixed for support on June 28 and issued notices on former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen over a Contempt of Court application filed for his failure to comply with the orders by the Court of Appeal in connection with the order to carry out reforestation of Maritchikattu and Karadikkuli forests adjacent to Wilpattu Forest Reserve.

After hearing the petition, the Court of Appeal gave its verdict on November 16, 2020 and ordered the respondent Rishad Bathiudeen to take steps to reforest the cleared forest areas. The Forest Conservation Department has calculated that it will cost Rs.1,067 million to carry out the task. But the respondent ex-minister has not made arrangements to pay the amount or reforestation. The petitioner alleged that the former minister failed to pay the amount and to act according to the order.
