Nineteen arrested after fracas inside Hikkaduwa Police Station

Nineteen persons including five women were arrested by the Hikkaduwa Police after they behaved in an unruly manner inside the police station. The two parties had been summoned to the police station to inquire into a complaint, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Talduwa said.

A sword and a sharp pointed knife had been taken into police custody from a three-wheeler in which a suspect had arrived.

The police media spokesman said that a group of suspects who had attacked a boat on the Weligama coast and caused damage, had been summoned to the police station based on a complaint received by the Hikkaduwa police, when the suspects had behaved in this manner.

The suspects who were arrested were residents of Rathgama and Dodanduwa and were aged between 24 and 50 years.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court. Hikkaduwa Police are carrying out investigations.
