The US Embassy in Colombo yesterday said that Sri Lanka became the 94th member of the Global G7 24/7 Cybercrime Network which swiftly preserves digital evidence for criminal investigations involving computer systems and data and aiding in electronic evidence collection for legal proceedings. “For example, upon discovering emails or social media accounts tied to suspected crime, a Sri Lankan Police Officer can now call the 24/7 number to have the email and social media accounts preserved before the criminal can change them,”he said.

The Embassy said that the US Department of Justice together with the help of other US agencies partnered with Sri Lanka’s legal experts this week for a workshop on mutual legal assistance and extradition between US and Sri Lanka.

“This is a prime example of the partnership it takes for successful mutual legal assistance and helping law enforcement stay ahead of 24/7 criminals,” the Embassy said.
