The political party registered under “Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front” (Ape Sri Lanka Nidahas Peramuna) has been renamed as the “Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna”. The renamed political party will function under the chairmanship of former Parliamentarian Prof.G.L. Peiris, who represents the Joint Opposition.
The symbol of the “Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna”will be ‘Flower Bud’.
The party was earlier registered with the Elections Department in 2001 as “Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front” (Ape Sri Lanka Nidahas Peramuna), with the ‘Cricket Bat’ as its symbol.
“The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will be officially launched as a political party affiliated to the Joint Opposition on the birthday of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa which falls on November 18,” reliable sources said.
