Sevanagala child abuse case: Five remanded

The five suspects arrested in connection with the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old in Sevanagala were remanded until April 16th.

One of the suspects arrested in connection with the abuse is a relative of the child and also a provincial councillor.

Speaking to the Daily News, Sevanagala Police Crimes OIC said that the sexual abuse has been happening over a period of around three months. The parents had told Police that the child has been in the habit of visiting other houses in the vicinity, including the houses of the suspects.

When the child had revealed what was happening, the parents had lodged a complaint with the Sevanagala Police. The police also recorded a statement from the child regarding the sexual abuse that the suspects had committed during this period.

Based on the statements given by the child and the parents the Police had arrested the five suspects and produced them in court.
