Cabinet approval to buy four helicopters for Air Force

UPDATE:  Cabinet approval has been granted to purchase four helicopters for the Sri Lanka Air Force for training purposes, Co-cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr.Ramesh Pathirana said.

He was speaking at the Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department. Minister Pathirana said that the President on behalf of the Defence Ministry presented a proposal to the Cabinet to purchase four helicopters by calling competitive international tenders."The Sri Lanka Air Force is deployed in Sudan and the Central African Republic now in Peacekeeping Missions, and it has become important to train Sri Lanka Air Force pilots engaged in such missions," the Minister said.

He further said that Sri Lanka Air Force uses two helicopters manufactured in 1982 for training, and they will be replaced by the four helicopters.
