Acute shortage of teachers in Matale schools

Some principals allege that the Provincial Ministry of Education has not taken any steps to alleviate the existing shortage of competent teachers for essential subjects at rural schools so far in the Matale District.

Due to this situation, children are unable to study Science, Mathematics and English subjects properly in these schools for many years. In the meantime, urban schools as well as the schools with all facilities are overstaffed. But, the management has not taken any action to post the redundant teachers to necessary places.

If done, the existing shortage of teachers could be avoided to some extent. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that most of the redundant teachers in these schools have been working in the same place for many years. Therefore, these principals said that due to this condition the rural children have lost the rights to enjoy free education and they stressed that the government should take strict action in this regard.
